Crochet Skill Levels

Crochet Skill Levels

Crochet Basics

What is the difference between an easy pattern and a beginner pattern when crocheting? Have you thought they were the same? You may have seen skill levels posted on most of the crochet patterns I blog about. When I started this blog, my goal was to give as much accurate information as possible. My idea was to help and inspire other peoples crafts. I wanted to share what I had experienced- to give a real perspective of the world crafts. So, when I started writing about crochet, I realized I didn’t know the exact breakdown of the skill levels. Even after crocheting for over 10 years, I never thought about skill levels. They were always just listed with the patterns. As a result, I did some research and found the explanation of the skill terms. The American Crochet Association explained it perfectly. Here is the breakdown:

1. Beginner

These projects are for first-time crocheters, that use basics stitches and has minimal shaping.

2. Easy

Easy projects use basic stitches, repetitive stitch patterns, and simple color changes. There are simple shaping and finishing details.

3. Intermediate

Projects for intermediates use a variety of techniques. These patterns incorporate basic lace and/or color patterns with mid-level shaping and finishing.

4. Experienced

Experienced crochets use projects with intricate stitch patterns, techniques, and dimensions. These patterns are non-repeating with multi-colored techniques. They also use fine threads and small hooks. In addition, they work with detailed shaping and refined finishing.
