Double Bobble Beanie Crochet Pattern Review
A few months ago I created a round-up of Crochet Patterns using Mandala Yarn (see here). I originally made this list because I wanted to use the amazingly colored yarn myself and found it extremely hard to find. Since that post, I decided I wanted to make a specific kind of hat but I wanted to hunt down a pattern that specifically used the Mandala Yarn. It took a while but I found the Double Bobble Beanie on Craftsy by Mistys Crochet (see here). It looked perfect, so I bought it and crocheted away. This my Double Bobble Beanie Crochet Pattern Review.

Review
I should start off this review by stating that this pattern cost $5.00 on Craftsy. That is on the higher end of the cost spectrum for crochet patterns. I typically try not to spend that much on a single pattern. However, it was the only hat that looked closest to what I wanted and also used Mandala Yarn. The only thing I was going to change was the top. I did not want a pom-pom or a bun beanie top. I was just going to leave that part out. As I am writing this, I started thinking about my biggest issue with the pattern- the crown/top of the hat. I just realized as I am typing, that this pattern was designed to have a pom-pom on top, or as a Bun Beanie. This explains why the crown of this hat seemed to just be insufficient, in my opinion.
Let’s start at the beginning. First, I didn’t want to change the number of chains required for the pattern. I was really worried about the spacing and the design working out evenly. The foundation chain using the suggested hook was way too small. I figured this out by taking the foundation chain and wrapping it around my head. I kept increasing the hook size until the foundation chain fit comfortably around my head. When you attach the foundation chain be sure to not twist the chain.
As a result of this not being a standard beanie pattern, I had to adjust the last few rows of this Double Bobble Beanie Pattern to decrease into the crown I wanted it to be. I first did this by minimizing each double bobble by one set of loops, making them smaller in size. After I minimized the double bobble each row, I then switched to one bobble, instead of two. I then went back to the pattern and followed it to close the top of the hat to make the crown.
The Final Result and Thoughts
When I first started this review, I wasn’t as pleased with it as I am now. This mostly was because I just wanted a plain beanie and that is not what this pattern was made for. Once I figured out a plan to make the crown of the hat I wanted, I was golden. The other main question- was it worth $5? That is debatable. I chose this specific pattern because it used the yarn I wanted. Now I see that I probably could have used one that used the same weight of the yarn I wanted. I was so pleased with the final outcome, that I started looking for a matching Infinity Scarf. However, I couldn’t find what I wanted, so I decided to create my own! Check it out HERE! It is my first original pattern and I am extremely excited to share it with you all!
